Welcome to Tala. Your privacy is at the core of the way we design and build the services and products you love. We appreciate that you put your trust in us when you provide us with your information, and we do not take this lightly.

This Privacy Policy explains how Tala Inc. ("Tala", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Services").

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

To help you develop meaningful connections and provide an engaging entertainment experience, we collect three categories of information:

1.1 Information You Give Us

  • Account Registration: When you create an account, we collect your phone number, email address, date of birth, and password. We may also require SMS verification to prove you are a real person.
  • Profile Data: You may choose to complete your profile by sharing your gender, photos, bio, and interests.
    • Sensitive Data: If you choose to provide information about your sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or political opinions, you explicitly consent to our processing of this data to provide you with personalized matches and content.
  • User-Generated Content (UGC): We collect the content you create, including live streams, video chats, text messages, photos, and comments.
  • Transaction Information: If you purchase Tala Coins or subscribe to premium features, we collect details of the transaction (e.g., transaction ID, date, and items purchased). Note: We do not store your full credit card number; payments are processed by third-party providers (e.g., Apple App Store, Google Play).
  • Customer Support: Information you provide when you contact us for help or report a problem.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: We collect data about your activity on our Services, such as the profiles you view, the time and duration of your live streams, your interactions with other users (e.g., likes, gifts sent), and when you log in.
  • Device Information: We collect information from and about the device(s) you use, including:
    • Hardware model, operating system version, and battery level.
    • Unique device identifiers (e.g., IMEI, IDFA, GAID).
    • IP address and network information (e.g., WiFi, 4G/5G).
  • Location Information:
    • General Location: We infer your general location (e.g., city or country) based on your IP address to show you relevant content.
    • Precise Location: With your explicit permission, we may collect precise geolocation data (GPS) to power features like "Nearby Users." You can revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.

1.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Social Media Login: If you log in via Facebook, Google, or Apple, we collect certain information (like your name and photo) from those platforms, consistent with your privacy settings on their services.
  • Advertising Partners: We may receive information about you from our marketing partners to help us measure the performance of our ads.

2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use your information to deliver, improve, and protect our Services. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Provide the Service: Create your account, facilitate live streaming, process payments, and enable messaging.
  • Personalize Your Experience: Recommend broadcasters or friends you might like based on your activity and profile data.
  • Ensure Safety & Compliance:
    • Detect and prevent fraud, spam, and unauthorized account access.
    • Monitor user behavior and content (including automated scanning of chats and streams) to enforce our Community Guidelines and prevent harassment, hate speech, or illegal activities.
  • Improve Our Services: Analyze usage trends to fix bugs and develop new features.
  • Advertising & Attribution: Measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns (see Section 3 for details on hashed data).

3. HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

We do not sell your personal data. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

3.1 With Service Providers

We share data with trusted third parties who help us operate our business, such as:

  • Cloud hosting providers (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Content moderation services.
  • Customer support tools.
  • Analytics providers.

These partners are bound by strict confidentiality obligations.

3.2 With Advertising Partners (Hashed Data)

To measure the effectiveness of our ads on platforms like Google or Facebook, we may share hashed identifiers (e.g., a cryptographically security version of your email address or device ID). This ensures these partners cannot read your actual contact information but can help us understand if our ads led to a new registration.

3.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal process, such as a court order, subpoena, or search warrant.
  • Assist in the prevention or detection of crime.
  • Protect the safety of any person.

3.4 Business Transfers

If Tala is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that deal.

4. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION

4.1 General Retention

We retain your information only as long as we need it for legitimate business purposes and as permitted by applicable law.

4.2 Safety Retention Window (Crucial for Safety)

Following an account closure request, we implement a safety retention window of three (3) months. During this period, your data is not visible to the public, but we retain it to deter bad actors who might delete their accounts to evade detection after violating our rules or harassing others. If an account is banned for violation, we may retain data for up to one year or longer to prevent recidivism.

4.3 Deletion

After the safety window passes, we delete or anonymize your information, unless we must keep it for legal reasons (e.g., tax laws require us to keep transaction records for 10 years).

5. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • Rectification: Update inaccurate information directly within the App.
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your account and data (subject to the retention window described in Section 4.2).
  • Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw consent for location tracking or push notifications via your device settings.

6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Tala is strictly for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a child has registered, we will immediately ban the account and delete their information.

7. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

Tala operates globally. Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in Singapore, the United States, or other countries where our servers are located. By using Tala, you acknowledge that these countries may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.

8. DISCLOSURE TO THIRD-PARTY SDKs

We use third-party Software Development Kits (SDKs) to support various App functions. Below is a list of key SDKs, their purposes, and the data they may collect. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.

9. SECURITY

We use robust security measures (including encryption and access controls) to protect your data. However, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data, and you provide information at your own risk.

10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other means so you can review the changes before continuing to use Tala.
